According to a recent investigation by
CoinDesk, North Korean IT workers
have infiltrated several cryptocurrency
companies using fake identities to
work remotely. These workers
successfully passed hiring processes
with forged documents and have
funneled up to $600 million annually to
the North Korean government. Many
companies unknowingly hired these
workers, and at least 12 companies
have reported being hacked as a
result. North Korean workers typically
keep their webcams off during remote
work, successfully hiding their true
identities. This activity has become a
significant source of funding for North
Korea's nuclear and missile programs.
